The authorization process is dependent on whether or not the individual who is interested in treatment has insurance. Please refer to the following guidelines on obtaining an authorization for treatment.

For those who have Medicaid or are uninsured:

Each county has a coordinating agency that manages state funded insurance and state funding for those without insurance. Please refer to the Michigan Department of Community Health website and select the county you reside in for more information on who to contact for authorization. Upon contact, the coordinating agency will complete a brief assessment to determine eligibility for services and will contact The Salvation Army Turning Point Programs Access Department when authorization is provided. Eligibility for state funding is based on financial need and at times requires a sliding scale fee. Once authorization is obtained, please contact the Access Department at your earliest convenience to schedule an intake appointment. Intake appointments are based on availability.

For those with commercial insurance:

As insurance companies do not complete their own assessments, authorization is not provided until after the intake appointment. Before scheduling an appointment, the access staff must first contact the insurance company to verify benefits and calculate an estimated cost based on cost of services, co-pays, and deductibles. Please have your insurance information available when calling to schedule an appointment and be aware that intake appointments are based on availability. At time of intake, a thorough medical and clinical assessment will be completed and a clinician will contact the insurance company for authorization. Please be aware that 75% of the total cost responsible to the individual is required at time of intake. We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, check or cash.

For private party:

Private party payment is accepted for those who do not have insurance and do not meet criteria for state funding or state insurance. Daily rates are $425 per detoxification day, $325 per residential day and $125 per intensive outpatient day.

Intake Process

Upon arrival, please enter the main doors located underneath the skywalk located on the west side of the building and tell the receptionist you have an appointment with The Salvation Army Turning Point Programs. The receptionist will notify Turning Point staff that you have arrived and staff will come downstairs to greet you and bring you upstairs to the program.

As a safety precaution, staff must search your person and belongings before beginning the intake process. Weapons, substances, food, items containing alcohol and beverages are prohibited on the unit. Other items such as cell phones and razors will be kept in the staff office. Most items can be signed out for use, however cell phones are not allowed while in the building. Pay phones are available if needed.

The intake process is completed in three steps. First, the individual will meet with Treatment Coordinator staff to complete the paperwork required for admission. Second, a medical evaluation is required to determine medical history and immediate medical needs. Finally, a clinical assessment is completed to develop an individual plan of service for the treatment experience.

Please arrive to your appointment 15 minutes early and be aware that late arrivals may be required to reschedule. The intake process is to determine eligibility for services so be sure to have a ride available if clinical or medical criteria are not met.
